Every scene is a love scene. The actor should ask the question, “where is the love?” of every scene, or he won’t find the deepest emotional content. This does not mean that every scene is about Romeo and Juliet-type love; sometimes the scene is about the absence or the deprivation of love.-Audition by Michael Shurtleff
What a realization! Michael’s ‘Audition’ is an awakening for me. This applies to our everyday life too. Not only for actors. Our life is a movie. A real movie that is more interesting and dramatic than any other movies out there. Everyday of our life is made up with different scenes and needless to say, love is the most common emotion that we have towards each other. Like Michael mentions in his book, we need to expand our concept of what love is. An actor had best learn that love comes in all forms, and in many more forms than only those he himself admires. I felt the great need to be more sensitive towards all the emotions around me. Especially love. I realized how insensitive I was about the presence of love. How love is always there even as an “absence or deprivation” of love. I really want to recognize all forms of love and just continue to LOVE and be full of love! Maybe I am expanding too much on acting lecture but after all, acting is all about life.
Do you guys think “every scene is a love scene”?
Do you guys give recognize “love” everyday?
